How Zone Control Cooling Can Improve Your Air Conditioner’s Efficiency

Summer is well on its way, and if you are well prepared, you’ve likely already scheduled or had maintenance done to ensure that your air conditioner is in the best shape possible to take on the hotter temperatures.

However, there is one more way that you can make sure your home is more comfortable and your air conditioner works more efficiently. The solution to this is a zone control system. We’ve gone into details about what this system does and what the benefits are below.

How a Zone Control System Works

A zone control system consists of several dampers in the ducts of your home, split up into different zones. These dampers can be opened or closed in order to direct the flow of air through the ductwork, and each zone has its own thermostat installed inside of it.

The thermostats are each wired to the dampers that make up its zone, and when they detect a need for air conditioning, they open the appropriate damper and turns on the AC system. This allows your AC system to condition part of the home without affecting the rest of it.

The Benefits of a Zone Control System

Although central air conditioners are very beneficial for a number of reasons, one of their disadvantages is that it only has two modes: on or off. Typical central air conditioning systems can’t modulate their output for different areas of the home like a zone control system can.

Additionally, each room in your home is insulated slightly different, so it will warm up or cool off faster than others. As a result, your central AC creates hot and cold spots throughout the house, wasting a lot of energy that you are paying for. A zone control system, however, eliminates this issue by enabling your AC system to change how much output it sends to each area of your living space. This results in more comfort for you, and more efficiency for your air conditioner.
