It Can’t Wait! When to Call for Prompt Plumbing Repair

plumber-using-wrench-to-fix-plumbing

If a plumbing system where no problems ever develop sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is. Even an expertly installed and designed plumbing system made with the highest quality pipes and fixtures will run into problems eventually.

So how do you know which issues can wait and which can’t? Some will be obvious like a severe leak or no access to water. Let’s go over 5 scenarios that require a prompt call for plumbing repair in Salt Lake City.

1. Leaky Pipe

A leaky pipe that seems like a minor issue can quickly escalate to become a major problem. You may think that a bucket under the leak is good enough for now, but think about what could happen if the bucket can no longer contain the leak. Give us a call so we can address a leaking pipe promptly. Water damage is something no homeowner should ever have to deal with.

2. Clogged or Overflowing Toilet

If you’ve tried plunging a toilet that’s clogged and it isn’t helping, this is a cause for concern. A toilet that isn’t working correctly has the potential to become a major health issue if it backs up completely and starts overflowing into your bathroom and the rooms beyond.  For an overflowing toilet, turn off the water valve under the toilet near where it connects to the plumbing in the wall. Don’t attempt to flush the toilet again and schedule service ASAP.

3. There’s a Complete Drain Blockage

A slow drain is annoying but it’s something that doesn’t constitute an emergency. But if there’s a complete blockage in any of your sinks, showers, or drains, then this is something that needs to be addressed quickly. Standing, stagnant water can escalate into becoming a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and even insects. This is a health issue and that’s why a completely blocked drain should be remedied promptly.

4. Your Water Heater Broke Down

If your taps aren’t emitting any hot water, you might try making do by boiling water to clean dishes. But this simply isn’t much of a long-term or even short-term solution. You need hot water not just for your comfort levels, but for your health and safety as well. A lack of hot water from all taps and faucets means an issue with the water heater. We’ll assess what’s going on.

5. You Detect Sewer Smells

This is an incredibly unpleasant situation to have to deal with in a home. Not only that, it has the potential to become a health hazard. In a worst-case scenario, the cause of the odors could be in the sewer line that runs under your property to the municipal system.

Clogging, tree root infiltration, or a break in the pipeline will cause sewage to start backing up. The sewage smell is the first warning and if left ignored, could result in fully clogged drains in your home and eventually, sewage entering through basement drains.
