Keep Your Air Conditioner Functioning Through the End of Summer

The end of summer is near! Soon instead of using your air conditioner every day, you’ll be enjoying cool fall days and awaiting the time you can start to turn on your heater. But wait, we still have a few hot days to contend with, right? As such, you’ll want to make sure that your air conditioner makes it to the end of the season.

Hopefully, you’ve had regular maintenance done within the last year to prevent any detrimental problems. However, if you haven’t and if your AC system is over a decade old, then the strain that’s been put on your system all summer long could cause a breakdown. In order to best prevent this, follow the tips we’ve shared below.

Raise Your Thermostat Settings

By placing your thermostat setting as high as you can still feel comfortable, your cooling system won’t have to run as often or for as long. As a result, it should continue to run efficiently and you’ll have less of a chance of it failing on you before Fall gets here.

Replace Your Air Filter

Your HVAC system’s air filter is designed to protect the inside components of your cooling system from dirt, debris, and other contaminants that can make it difficult for the system to do its job. This air filter should be changed at least every three months during periods of HVAC use. However, if you have significant contaminants in your home then it should be more often.

Schedule Repairs

You may be thinking that you just have a few more weeks of needing your system, so you’ll just put off any repair needs. No matter how small the problem—and this is especially true if you have an aging system—repairs aren’t something that should be postponed. Be sure to give us a call if you suspect something is amiss with your cooling system.

Should you experience a breakdown or decide that it’s time to upgrade your system, we recommend looking into an air conditioning system replacement. It’s never too late!
