3 Benefits of Radiant Heating

Today’s heating system options are abundant. While most homeowners are quick to choose a furnace as their heating method, other options may be better suited for homes in Cottonwood Heights, UT and surrounding areas. Radiant heating systems are an excellent choice, especially in homes being newly constructed.

Radiant heating uses heating panels or a hydronic system to heat the walls or floors of your home, instead of ductwork, to distribute heat. Heat radiates from the surface, evenly distributing heat throughout your home. We’ve highlighted the 3 main benefits of radiant heating below.

1. Efficiency

Utah residents use their heat, a lot! Naturally you want to select a system that will give you the most “bang for your buck” and won’t waste energy. The air from a furnace could escape through the joints in your ductwork into unoccupied space such as your attic.

There is no such heat loss with radiant heating, plus these systems heat more effectively. According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), with radiant heating systems people can be comfortable at temperatures 6-8 degrees Fahrenheit lower than with systems that use air as the primary heat-transfer medium.

2. Flexibility

With radiant heating systems, you don’t have to worry about where to place furniture and other household objects. You won’t be blocking any vents or baseboards, which will give you more flexibility when designing your home. In addition, there are no air handlers or inside units to deal with, so you don’t have to find or make as much space in your home as you would a more extensive heating system.

3. Comfort

Don’t you hate getting up on a winter morning to be greeted by a bitterly cold floor? Even in the dead of winter, a radiant heating system provides natural, evenly spread warmth that no other type of heating system can. Additionally, there is no forced air system distributing potential allergens throughout your home.

The best time to install radiant heating is during construction or during home remodeling. However, whenever you choose to have it installed, it’s imperative that you hire an HVAC technician with the skill and expertise needed to complete the job effectively.
