AC Maintenance: It’s Time!

ac-maintenance-timeTemperatures may still be on the cooler side for now, but soon enough summer will be here and you’ll want a fully functional and efficient cooling system on your side. Don’t let our cool spring weather trick you into thinking you can wait on important air conditioning services, such as your Holladay, UT air conditioning maintenance.

The heat of summer is a welcome change of pace for many homeowners after a cold and rather rainy winter! But you cannot enjoy summer to the full extent if you don’t adequately prepare your cooling system for the job ahead.

General Maintenance Tasks

Before we get into what all professional maintenance entails, it’s important that we remind you that there are a few maintenance tasks you can and should be doing on your home. For example, it’s vital that you change the air filter in your cooling system as needed—typically every 1-3 months.

It’s also a good idea to remove snow and other debris surrounding your condenser unit outside, and to keep that area clear throughout the season as to not disrupt airflow. There is so much more to AC maintenance, though, and that’s why it is important that you trust in professionals for the job.

What’s Involved in Professional Cooling System Maintenance?

As we eluded to above, the majority of your AC maintenance should be left to the pros. Most homeowners don’t realize how involved a process air conditioning maintenance is, and that’s okay—that’s what we’re here for. But we would like to give you a glimpse into the steps our technicians take to professional tune-up your system.

  • Lubricate all moving parts to reduce friction and subsequent wear and tear
  • Clean motor vents
  • Check all electrical wiring and connections, the blower wheel and evaporator coil, and thermostat calibration
  • Check condenser for temperature and pressure
  • Check refrigerant charge (despite popular belief, you should not have to refill your refrigerant unless there is a leak—which needs to be repaired at the source!)
  • Check for proper airflow
  • Check and clean the condensate pump/pan/drain line

As you can see, there are a number of complexities involved in AC maintenance, but why is it so important?

Regular Tune-Ups and System Efficiency

By having your cooling system regularly maintained, you’ll keep it functioning as efficiently and effectively as it should for as long as it should. When your air conditioner is in its best working condition, it will do its job better and with a reduced risk of operational problems. In fact, with regular tune-ups, you can expect the lifespan of your air conditioner to be extended beyond what it would have been without this professional service.
