Is it Time to Invest in a New Water Heater?

No matter what model you have, water heaters are known to be very reliable and durable appliances. This is particularly true if you schedule routine preventive maintenance for the system. However, no matter how well taken care of your water heater is, it cannot last forever. There will come a time that you will need to replace the system.

In order to minimize your inconvenience, it’s important that you know how to recognize the signs that this time is approaching. Otherwise, you can suddenly find yourself without hot water, which is of course not ideal. Keep reading to learn more about the signs that it’s time to invest in a new water heater.

Drop in Output

If you have a storage tank type water heater, then eventually it gets exhausted of hot water and you have to wait for more water to be heated. However, it should be sufficient enough to get you through average daily use. As the years go by, your water heater gets more worn out, and the system becomes less efficient. If you notice it’s getting increasingly difficult to get hot water, then it may be time for a replacement system.

Frequent Repairs

Even if your water heater is fairly new, it may need a repair every now and then. However as your system gets closer to the end of its life, it will likely start to develop more and more issues. If you find yourself needing repairs every few months, then it may make more financial sense to replace the system than to keep fixing it.

Age

Water heaters are designed to last about 10-15 years. If you keep it well maintained and serviced, it can last a little longer than that. However, it’s generally going to make more sense to replace it, efficiency wise. If your water heater is at least 15 years old—and is showing some potentially troubling symptoms—be sure to give our professionals a call.
